story provisionARCHITECTURE was founded in early 2009 after architect Mark Loudermilk found himself without an employer as a result of the post-bubble economy. He had been a lead designer and project manager for several large architecture firms, both in Atlanta where he grew up and, starting in 2005, Wilmington. After being approached by several potential clients and with the absolute support of his family he decided there was not a better time to step out as an entrepreneur. He says now that the "Great Recession" was the best thing that ever happened to his career. "I am having so much fun running a business, meeting new people constantly and learning, learning, learning!" Since that time our practice has continued to grow strong and consistent as we serve our clients and our reputation expands within the region. We are presently serving clients in WIlmington, Raleigh, Pinehurst, Emerald Isle, Fayetteville, Surf City and Oak Island.
L. Mark Loudermilk, AIA graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and has won several awards as a designer. With 17+ years' experience in the profession, he is licensed to practice in Georgia, Virginia and North Carolina. In 2011 he is serving as the president of the local American Institute of Architects section. He is also an accomplished guitarist and is a music fanatic. Mark's favorite quote is "If I'm not learning, check my pulse!" And here are a few of his recommended readings:
Excerpt from June 21, 2011 interview on SIVAD Radio with Entrepreneur Dave Spetrino
– hosted by Todd Schnick
“[Mark] was laid off from this large, very prominent, very regional architecture firm. He found himself with a talent in a place where he enjoyed living, but no opportunity for a job. And [now], he has more work than he can find. It really came down to his own sense of, you know, he has control of his own destiny. He can either curl up in a ball and cry about it or go out and talk to every single person he knows and look for every single opportunity. And, I’'m sure, that some of the work he was doing a year ago or two years ago, when he first went out on his own, was some of the worst work and making no money and doing lots of stuff for free just to get his foot in the door. And, really, two years seems like a long time in some respects, but in other respects, it’s gone by really quickly. He has done, I’m very proud to say, he is doing extremely well… and is hiring people…! ”

integrity "Our family experienced one of the darkest moments in our life in February 2010 when we lost our home, material possessions, our two precious poodles and a parakeet to fire. When we contacted Mark, he became an angel with design and vision to help us.
Understanding the trauma our family had experienced, he drove over an hour, at night in the pouring rain to the rural area we live to help us begin getting our lives back on track. He sat with us and listened to our fears, hurts, concerns, hopes and ideas. At that point, we had no dreams, but he provided hope and gave a spark to help us realize some dreams. The design and vision Mark provided us with has truly been a blessing for our family." -- Mark & Dewanda Sholar
